Expansion Project 2000
Building for the future
Fall 2000 -- The new century marks the beginning of an expansion project for the Museum... The project has two aspects; the addition of a 20,000 sq.' addition to the south side of the Museum and the construction of a larger POW Interpretive Center within the existing Museum.
The Nebraska Prairie Museum has been the happy recipient of artifacts, clothing photographs and memorabilia from the very generous community it serves. By utilizing every inch of space for display and storage, the Museum has reached the point where it must expand. An important exhibit that needs more space is the agricultural equipment and vehicle display. This expansion project will provide this and will allow the creation of new exhibits, which cannot be displayed in the current facility. The agricultural equipment and vehicles will move to the new addition into a section approximately five times the area in which they currently reside. This new home will provide room to walk around the vehicles and equipment with better lighting.
Around the perimeter of the addition, balconies will provide a second level of display while under the balconies; a series of new exhibits will be designed, suggesting a Town Square of businesses and prairie history. Some of the exhibits will include a print shop, blacksmith, hardware store, and millinery shop.
