The Sodhouse Society was organized in Omaha, Nebraska on June 19, 1956 in the Lecture Hall of Joslyn Museum. Mr. Max Marshall, an attorney was elected as the first president of this rather unique organization. It has grown ever since and there are members from Alaska, Hawaii and one coast to the other of the Continental U.S.
The group has been active since that first meeting and has met at least once or twice each year since then. Since 1965, meetings have been held twice yearly, the 2nd Saturday in June and the 2nd Saturday in October. At the annual meeting in June the officers--president, vice-president and secretary-treasurer are elected. 5 members comprise the Board of Directors, with 2 being elected each year. The immediate past president beĀcomes a member of the board. Historical sites, museums, homes, parks, lakes are visited. Sometimes guest speakers address the assembled members and visitors or various types of significant places, forts, caves, mines, ranches, sodhouses, fairs are visited.
