"When we first got to the camp,
there were horse mounted patrols, guard dogs in fence runs, rifles and
soldiers everywhere. Search lights shined around the camp at night. Toward
the end of the war, Camp Atlanta was just like a quiet little town, with
nothing going on even after dark."
Byron Nelson - Camp fireman |

| The Atlanta Prisoner of War Camp was active for only a few short years, but for those who served there or were kept prisoner there, it left an indelible mark on each and every one of them. Some prisoners felt they were treated so well that they eventually returned to the United States and became citizens. For others, less fortunate, they returned to the blight of Communism in the east. Others were executed by the Soviets. | ||
