Many of the German POWs were allowed to leave the camp under limited guard to help with agricultural work.

    German prisoners of war from Nebraska internment camps proved to be of considerable aid to Nebraska farmers in helping to pick the state's 1944 record breaking corn crop. these men were made available through application to county agricultural extension agents after priority had been given by the War Manpower Commission.
