1948 Indian Chief On Display In Time For Fall Festival

indian-motorcycle-0859 A beautifully restored 1948 Indian Chief motorcycle is on display at the Nebraska Prairie Museum. It belongs to John and Jean Nickel of Elm Creek.

The Nickel’s generous offer to display the motorcycle was greedily accepted by the museum’s director, Dan Christensen. The Indian Chief has a 74 cubic inch flathead engine, a left hand shift for the three-speed transmission, and weighs 550 pounds.The “Lady Luck” shifter and the Indian head sculpture on the rear fender are special features.indian-face-on-fender-0851

The museum is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and there is a Fall Festival/50th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, September 24 from 10:00 to 4:00, where one can see the lives of the early Phelps County settlers demonstrated.
